UPDATE – ALL REMAINING NESBA AND WGI COMPETITIONS, INCLUDING SOMERSET, HAVE BEEN CANCELLED
From Mr McGuire:
Good Morning,
I hope everyone is doing well.
I want to start by thanking everyone who worked on our home show this past weekend. I was amazed at the way all of the parents and friends of our program worked together to make the day an extraordinary event. I have received nothing but compliments from other group directors who were impressed with how well our show ran. Also – thank you for cheering loudly for all of the percussion and color guard students from Mansfield who performed. Between all 4 ensembles we have over 70 Mansfield students who participated in the performances this past Saturday! Amazing!
Some parents have reached out to me to ask about any potential travel restrictions regarding Dayton and the situation with the COVID-19 virus. Our school administration has been monitoring the situation and there have been no recommended travel bans for trips in the United States. WGI has released the following statement on their website:
Like all of you, WGI has been tracking and following the global news and responses to the disease, as well as communicating with our event partner contacts and representatives to try and get the best handle on a quickly evolving challenge. Because this virus is new to everyone, there are no substantial template examples or directions that can be offered, other than normal safety guidelines for avoiding other illnesses, like the flu. At this time, our events have not been impacted and will proceed as planned unless local or national health organizations or our contest venues suggest otherwise.
Safety is always our number one priority for the students and I will continue to be in regular contact with our school administration and WGI to ensure that we have the most up to date information and recommendations moving forward. I have full faith in everyone involved to act in good faith in the best interest of the students. If anyone has a particular concern about their child traveling to Ohio next month, please reach out to me for further discussion. If anything should change, I will communicate that to you as soon as possible. At this point we will continue on as planned.
Just a reminder – this Saturday’s rehearsal is scheduled to go from 2pm – 7:30pm due to the SAT’s being held at MHS. Report time will be 2pm as we will not be able to get into the building before that due to the test administration rules.
Finally, please find the schedule for this Sunday’s competition in Somerset attached to this email. We could certainly use parent help moving around and loading the truck after the performance. It’s a very quick turnaround from the end of our performance to the end of the show, so any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for all of your support of these wonderful students. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions.
All the best,
Matt
