QMS Concert Bands

6th Grade Band

Students entering QMS have the exciting opportunity to join our band program. All students, especially beginners, are welcome! They can choose an instrument from the woodwind, brass, or percussion family and either rent that instrument through a local vendor or borrow a school instrument if financial assistance is needed.

In 6th grade, students take small group lessons to learn how to play their instruments individually. Eventually, they come together in full band and prepare music for various concerts throughout the year. 6th band students perform in three concerts in January, March, and June. In addition to their concerts, 6th grade band students have opportunities to join different ensembles, perform in various settings, and go on field trips with the band.

7th Grade Band

7th Grade Band is open to all returning 6th grade band students, and any student who wishes to join the program. Students continue both their small group lessons and full ensemble rehearsals throughout their 7th grade year. These students are also eligible to join the QMS Tri-M Music Honor Society. 7th grade band students perform in three concerts, December, March, and June. 7th grade band students have opportunities to join different ensembles, perform in various settings, and go on field trips with the band.

8th Grade Band

8th Grade Band is a daily class that meets in place of a specials class. Through daily hard work, these students grow tremendously as musicians and members of our band program. In 8th grade students perform in three concerts, December, March, and June. In addition to these performances, the 8th grade band competes in two local festivals, the MICCA Festival and Great East.
