Band Camp 2020 details from Mr McGuire:
Good Morning,
I hope everyone is doing well. Here is the information regarding band camp. There is a lot to review here, so please read everything carefully so that you have all of the information you need.
Normally I would have sent information out much sooner than this, but given the circumstances and how things are constantly changing I’m glad we were able to make something happen this year. I appreciate your patience as we try and work through all of this.
I have included a band camp letter, an RSVP form, a number of documents regarding safety, and arrival and dismissal procedures in this email. Please RSVP as soon as you can so that we can better plan and make adjustments as needed. Keep in mind, band camp is optional this year. I know every family has to make a choice on how they proceed that is best for your situation. There is no penalty if you do not attend and your child will not fall behind if they are not here.
If your child was not impact tested last year, I will send a link to those students who need to have that done. Impact testing is a baseline test for students in case they were to ever get a concussion while they were participating in band. This allows us to get a baseline on them so that we know when they can safely return to play. It is mandated by the state of Massachusetts that students involved in marching band are Impact tested. We can now run this testing online. Once I receive your RSVP I will cross check a list of students who were Impact tested last year, and if your child needs to be tested I will send them the link in their email. I will let everyone know when that email has gone out so that families can keep an eye out for it.
For percussionists – if you are unsure of which section you will be in (drumline or front ensemble), you may choose. If you want to play a drum and march then join the drumline night, if you want to play a mallet instrument and not march then you may join the front ensemble night. If you have any questions about this, please feel free to reach out to me. You will have a chance to switch later in the year, so feel free to try out whichever section you want!
Feel free to reach out to me with any questions that you may have. I will do my best to answer them. Please continue to be patient as we navigate through uncharted waters. Our top priority is student safety. Please review the daily self screen document prior to your child attending band camp. If your child answers yes to any of the questions, please keep them home and contact your health care provider.
Finally, things may change very quickly. I will continue to communicate using email and Facebook. I will continue to communicate over the week as information is available. Oftentimes I am double and triple checking to make sure we are in compliance so things can take some extra time.
Don’t hesitate to reach out if you have questions. Please review all of the documents attached to this email and let me know if I can clarify anything. Thank you for your continued support. I’m looking forward to seeing our amazing band students again!
