The award-winning Mansfield High School Percussion Ensemble is a highly competitive and highly selective group within the Mansfield band program. Students can join by contacting Mr. DeJoy and auditioning to be a part of the program.
The ensemble, when in full swing, rehearses every Tuesday and Thursday night from 6:00pm-9:00pm and every Saturday from 10:00am-4:00pm starting in late November. The ensemble competes in the New England Scholastic Band Association (NESBA) and Winter Guard International (WGI) circuits throughout late February and March into mid-April.
As an example, for the 2020 season, the Percussion Ensemble performed an arrangement of Tremors by SOHN. The show tells the tale of individuals and groups being split apart and reunited. The show has wowed audiences with its tight choreography tied to moving scenery and virtuoso playing – the result of many hours of hard work.
The Percussion Ensemble has seen tremendous success over the years. The group’s success as a competitive juggernaut has been recognized at both the local and national levels. Our groups have won many New England championships and three World Championships in recent years. We perform challenging music and demand both musical and academic excellence from our members who, in turn, rise to the challenge and make us proud to be part of their success and achievement!
